Sargon II ( Akkadian Šarru-kinu "legitimate king", reigned 721 BC-705 BC) was a Assyrian king. He took the throne from Shalmaneser V in 721 BC. It is not clear whether he was the son of Tiglath-Pileser III or a usurper unrelated to the royal family. In his inscriptions, he styles himself as a new man, rarely referring to his predecessors; ... he took the name Sharru-kinu, "true king", after Sargon of Akkad — who had founded the first Semitic Empire in the region some 16 centuries earlier.[1] Sargon is the Biblical form of the name.

Sargon II Sargon II wields a massive scimitar, which he uses to hack his enemies to bits. When he needs to attack from a distance, Sargon II switches to the Bow of Atar, a weapon of incalculable power that fires multiple arrows simultaneously. As Sargon II gains experience, he can fire even more arrows, which will utterly decimate enemy formations. A master archer, Sargon II inflicts the maximum damage with each shot. In Marksman Mode, Sargon II can zoom in x2.
Beset by difficulties at the beginning of his rule, Sargon II made a pact with the Chaldean Marduk-apla-iddin. He freed all temples, as well as the inhabitants of the towns of Assur and Harran from taxes. While Sargon was ... trying to gain support in Assyria, Marduk-apla-iddin conquered Babylon with the help of the new Elamite king

Winged bull with human head, from the palace of Sargon II at Khorsabad The palace of Sargon at Khorsabad (Dur-Sharrukin) was decorated with carved orthostats depicting various subjects including tribute, processions, mythical beasts and even the procurement of timber by sea. The above detail depicts Sargon II (at left) wearing the Assyrian royal cone crown and carrying the staff of kingship. He greets his vizier (to right) who raises his hand in a gesture of respect. Details of dress are apparent, such as the fringed garments and jewelled bracelets worn by those of the Assyrian court.

Although these figures cannot be checked, they are probably trustworthy, because the king list for Ur III, even if 250 years later, did transmit dates that proved to be accurate.
