With the power left in his battered body, Sargon defeated his attacker, crushing the man’s skull with his mace, but the damage had been done. Sargon’s appearance was now irreparably scarred, but unknown to him, the spell employed by his now dead rival was not finished. The healer’s flesh continued to rot, further worsening his already macabre visage.

It is not beyond the realm of possibility that Daiukku, if he is correctly identified with Deioces, was only a child ruler when first overthrown by Sargon of Assyria. Later, while the successors of Sargon expended Assyria's power in debilitating warfare, Daiukku/Deioces was able to take advantage of the situation to found a Median dynasty.

During the Books of Magic series, the Phantom Stranger and young Timothy Hunter had a brief encounter with what was apparently Sargon's soul, who attempted to warn the boy of the dangers and costs of pursuing magical power. He then disintegrated right before their eyes, leaving behind his Ruby of Life.
