The accounts of Sargon's regnal years will be taken mainly from his Annals as recorded on the walls of his palace at Khorsabad. The eight campaigns of Sennacherib will be taken from the famous Taylor Prism [26]. Sargon lists his Annals according to his regnal years, from Year 1 as far as his Year 15. Sennacherib does not connect his campaigns to his regnal years.

Sargon lived in Calah (modern Nimrud), the military capital, which he fortified and embellished. He ... created a new residence city, Sargonsburg, 15 miles northeast of Nineveh, near modern Khorsabad. The city, which was inaugurated in 706, took 10 years to build. It was laid out in a rectangle, and its walls were pierced by eight gates. The great palace and temple, which stood on a 50-foot-high citadel platform, contained spacious halls decorated with stone reliefs. Colossal figures of man-headed bulls stood at the doorways.

Sennacherib's briefly recorded Fifth Campaign does not seem to have any equivalent amongst Sargon's regnal year records. It may have been unworthy of mention. be completely absent from [Sennacherib's] reliefs ...[it] is not depicted in the throne-room suite, nor for that matter in any of the surviving palace reliefs ...".
