Sardinia: Sea
built 632 days ago
Landforms Most of the Sardinia is a mountainous plateau that gradually slopes to the sea. The highest point, Punta La Marmora, rises to 6,017 ft. (1,834m). The mountainous terrain is drained by many small rivers and streams, and is punctuated by wide green valleys, all covered by scrub and grassy land. Flatter areas ([P]lains) cover much of the coastline.

S'Archittu on the hill With the Gulf of Oristano as a backdrop and a Spanish tower overlooking it, the ancient Roman ruins of Tharros are popular amongst visitors to Sardinia. The settlement dates back to around 800 B.C. when the Phoenicians first settled on the peninsula. Among the ruins are ancient baths, aqueducts, temples, houses and the two upright columns just off the sea. A small entrance fee is due to visit the site and it is well worth a look.

Sardinia seems to have emerged from the sea, the highest mountain of the island is 1,800 m :La Punta La Marmora in the Gennargentu mountains in the middle of the island. The sea in fact, is one of its main attractions with 1,850 kilometres of coastlines and so it seems right that Sardinia is synonym of sun, sea and silence.
