Sarah Fisher: Track
built 279 days ago
Sarah Fisher is a real race driver. You can read about her achievements in various publications but the one thing most quoted is her lap record at Winchester Speedway, a high-banked track that has killed people.

Indy driver Sarah Fisher isn't racing to catch up with the boys. She is patiently gaining speed and experience to build a career that will outlast the setback of a high-profile crash and earn her a regular place in the starting lineup. Good advice for any fast-track career.

Sarah Fisherwas exposed to life at the racetrack at an early age. Her parents would take her to the track to watch her father drive sprint cars. Her first racing experience came as a 5 year old when her parents fitted her for her first race car -- a quarter-midget. After winning the World Karting Association Grand National Championships three times, Fisher caught the eye of open-wheel veteran Derrick Walker, who signed her at the tender age of 19 to his IndyCar Series team. She became the third female to race in the Indianapolis 500.

Sarah Fisher was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 4, 1980 and she was at her first race before she could crawl. Her father, Dave, raced go-karts (against current IRL drivers Mark Dismore and Scott Goodyear) and her parents took Sarah along to the track too.

Sarah Fisher, the first womean to win the pole in a major auto racing series, will make her first IndyCar start since 2004 in the August 13 Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway for Dreyer &Reinbold Racing. It's a one-race deal which she hopes will lead to a full-time ride in the IRL. Fisher, 25, won the pole at Kentucky in 2002 and still holds the track record in qualifying at 221.390 mph. Rahal Letterman's Danica Patrick became the second woman to win a pole, earning three last season, but Fisher's second place at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2000 and third at Kentucky Speedway in 2001 are still the two best finishes by a woman in Indy-car racing.
