Santa Cruz: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
built 203 days ago
Averaging more than 300 sunny days a year, Santa Cruz is an ideal destination for beach lovers and surfers. The city is located roughly 70 mi (113 km) south of San Francisco and 30 mi (48 km) from San Jose. Known alternately as Surf City, it is reputed that this was where Hawaiian royalty first introduced surfing to mainlanders. Pleasure Point Beach and Cowell Beach are popular locations for surfers, not only for the size of the surf but ... because the sandy beaches provide favorable conditions for playing beach volleyball and relaxing by a bonfire. Another popular local attraction is the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. One of the West Coast's remaining seaside amusement parks, the Boardwalk's features include roller coasters, a 1911 Looff carousel and a mini golf course.

Santa Cruz [1] is a small coastal city (population about 55,000) in Santa Cruz County, on the north end of Monterey Bay in California, about forty miles south of San Jose. While it gained some tech jobs during the boom, it is still best known for fun weekend tourist attractions like the Beach Boardwalk and the Mystery Spot, and its University of California campus. It ... has one of the world's best Disc Golf Courses at Delaveaga.

Santa Cruz has an extensive network of bike lanes and bike paths. Most major roads have bike lanes, and wide, luxurious bike lanes were recently installed on Beach Street, near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Additionally, there are levee bike paths along the San Lorenzo River. A Rail Trail -- a bicycle and pedestrian path beside an existing coastal train track -- is under consideration.[19]
