© www.santapark.fi The tradition of Santa Claus has remained particularly strong in the Nordic countries. The Yule Goat liked to sing and dance, and families offered him drink and food in exchange for his entertainment.
The village has its own official Santa Claus’ Post Office, which is perhaps the most impressive post office in the world. In addition he ... has his own shopping centre where genuine gifts and other beautiful items are on offer. Here you will find coffee shops, restaurants and many different types of programme services. An artist elf also has a very special studio here. In winter the village has an exceptional atmosphere. The surroundings are covered by soft, white snow and the Christmas lights brighten the dark winter days.
Vote.com conducted a poll in 1999-DEC, asking Internet surfers: "Do you believe in Santa Claus?" Of the 4,114 votes cast, 66% voted for the option "Yes! He spreads Christmas spirit around the world." 34% voted "No! Bah, Humbug! Santa's nothing but a marketing ploy." So it seems, Virginia, that there is a Santa Claus, after all -- at least in the minds of most Internet surfers. 1
A medieval fresco depicting St Nicholas from the Boyana Church, near Sofia, Bulgaria Pre-modern representations of the gift-giver from church history and folklore merged with the British character Father Christmas to create the character known to Britons and Americans as Santa Claus. Father Christmas dates back at least as far as the 17th century in Britain, and pictures of him survive from that era, portraying him as a well-nourished bearded man dressed in a long, green, fur-lined robe. He typified the spirit of good cheer at Christmas, and was reflected in the "Ghost of Christmas Present" in Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.
