Santa Claus: Children
built 144 days ago
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- For the second consecutive year, Santa Claus won't be the only special visitor posing for pictures with children at Wal-Mart. The Three Kings will ... be making appearances in select Wal-Mart stores during the holiday season to help celebrate Three Kings Day. As part of this Hispanic-themed holiday campaign, Wal-Mart will also feature Rosca de Reyes (Hispanic holiday Kings Cake) and traditional hot chocolate for its customers.
Thomas Nast's Santa A standardized Santa Claus appears to New York children. Height, weight, stature are almost exactly standardized, as are the red garments, the hood and the white whiskers. The pack full of toys, ruddy cheeks and nose, bushy eyebrows and a jolly, paunchy effect are ... inevitable parts of the requisite make-up.

Santa Claus The first half of this film, set hundreds of years ago, shows how the old man who eventually became Santa Claus was given immortality and chosen to deliver toys to all the children of the world. The second half moves into the modern era, in which Patch, the head elf, strikes out on his own and falls in with an evil toy manufacturer who wants to corner the market and eliminate Santa Claus. more

Grandfather Frost In Japan, Santa Clause is called Santa Clause or just "Santa". Children often call him "Santa no ojisan," which means "Uncle Santa." (This information comes to you via the courtesy of Mr. Kazuo Miyasako of Dokkyo University. Many thanks go to the readers of Lone Star Internet)

In Holland, Sinterklaas (Santa Claus) wore a red robe while riding a white horse and carried a bag of gifts to fill the children's stockings. A sinister assistant called Black Pete proceeded Sinterklaas in the Holland tradition to seek out the naughty boys and girls who would not receive gifts.

SANTA CLAUS has a strange obsession with children, as does the title character (understandable as children are his business). The opening reel of the film is absolute time-capsule gold: a smattering of kids from all over the world are workers (volunteers? slaves?) in Santa's magic toy factory up in the clouds. This strange place is like a combination of Noah's Ark and Heaven for the newly dead.
