Sandra Post is still arguably the greatest golfer in Canadian history, paving the way for Canadian champions such as Lorie Kane and Mike Weir. She exploded onto the golfing scene during her rookie year on the LPGA tour in 1968. Amazingly, not only did the 20-year old become the first Canadian to join the tour, she won the LPGA Championship by defeating Kathy Whitworth in a playoff.
At the 1968 LPGA Championship, Sandra Post became and remains to this day the youngest winner of a modern major. It was the first win for a Canadian at a major professional golf tournament. Over her career, she won a total of nine events including three majors and ... had 20 second-place finishes, including one at the U.S. Women's Open.

In 2003 the Government of Canada presented Sandra with its highest honour, the Order of Canada. Sandra is a member of five Hall of Fames, including the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, the Ontario Sports and Golf Halls of Fame and the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame. She is a featured speaker at many events and travels across Canada presenting golf clinics for major corporations and charitable events. As a member of the Jazz Design team, Sandra has worked on developing a women’s golf club line that will fulfill the requirements for the women golfer of today.

Until Kane and/or Weir win their ninth pro event or a major or two, Post and Knudson will remain at the top of the heap of Canadian golfers. Right now, Kane has four wins, Weir two.

Sandra is a popular female name. It is often a shortened form of Alexandra, the female version of Alexander, which means Protector of Men. There are variants such as Sandrine, Sandrilene or Sandy, or various diminutives. Sometimes a male version appears, such as Italian, Portuguese and Spanish Sandro, or French Sandré.
