Sandra Bullock rose to stardom being cast as Annie Porter (costarring Keanu Reeves) in the huge hit bus movie Speed (1994). She ... received wide recognition for her performances in the romantic comedies While You Were Sleeping (1995) and Miss Congeniality (2000).
In 2005, Bullock found herself at the center of Oscar talk when she essayed the role of the racist wife of a prominant district attorney in Paul Haggis' critically acclaimed drama Crash. An unflinching look at racism in the multicultural melting pot of Los Angeles, Crash defied expectations to take home best editing, best screenplay, and best motion picture at the 77th Annual Academy Awards. That same year, a return to her role as bumbling undercover FBI agent Gracie Heart in Miss Congeniality 2 found Bullock returning to familiar lighthearted territory, although the sequel performed far more poorly than the first film. With her role as a lovelorn doctor who discovers a curious rift in time in 2006's romantic fantasy The Lake House (a remake of the 2000 South Korean film Siworae), the actress marked a graceful return to swooning, romantic pictures, not to mention a reteaming with her Speed man Keanu Reeves. Determined to remain firmly planted in serious acting, Bullock singed on to play author Harper Lee in the movie Infamous which, because of its unfortunate timing, was swallowed by comparisons to the film Capote, and went largely unnoticed. Undaunted, Bullock singed on for the supernatural thriller Premonition, about a woman who experiences shifts in the events of the universe and must use the visions to prevent her husband's death.

After twelve years working on separate films, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have finally come together again in a completely different vehicle than the mega-hit action smash "Speed" in 1994 which made them mainstream heroes overnight. "The Lake House" certainly isn't fast or gritty, rather an a light adult romance fantasy in which the pair play two homeowners in the same lake house separated by two years. Alex (Reeves) is there in 2004 and Kate (Bullock) is there today, and their letters travel the years instantly. A remake of the recent Korean hit film "Il Mare", Bullock spoke to the press recently about her work on the project and what is was like being together again after so long:
Sandra Bullock In the action movie Speed, Keanu Reeves (right) recruits Bullock to drive a bomb-rigged bus, and in the chaos, they fall in love. "Everyone told me not to do Speed," she tells The Virginian-Pilot. "I mean, it looked like I'd be just 'the girl,' [but] I've learned to do things by instinct." The film grosses more than $121 million at the box office, and while Reeves doesn't return for the disappointing sequel, the two stars reunite for the romantic drama The Lake House in 2007.
