Destination Lighting - Seattle Lighting's online store San Juan County Council set evaluating buildout and determining the carrying capacity of the islands as one of its goals during yesterday's retreat. Community Development and Planning Director Ron Henrickson agreed it was important work that needed to be done but suggested it be done in 2009 rather than this year.

San Juan County Council Chair Howie Rosenfeld told his fellow councilmembers it was time to direct the prosecutor to draw up an ordinance banning fireworks in San Juan County. According to Rosenfeld, former fire chief of Friday Harbor, all of the fire chiefs in the county support the ban. The ordinance once written will be subject to a public hearing before it is adopted.

Approximately 172 islands make up the San Juan Islands, located eighty miles from Seattle in the northern reaches of Puget Sound. Together, they comprise San Juan County, one of the smallest but fastest-growing counties in Washington State. The islands cover 175 square miles and are home to roughly 13,000 residents. Friday Harbor, the county seat, is the islands' biggest and only incorporated town.
