San Francisco 49Ers: Teams
built 282 days ago
Originally built for the MLB San Francisco Giants, Monster Park has been the home of the 49ers since 1971. Talk of building a stadium in the San Francisco area first began in 1954, when mayor Christopher promised to build a stadium if a major league team would move to the area. Later in the year, a $5 million bond was issued to build a stadium. Two locations for a new stadium in San Francisco were discussed: downtown and Candlestick Point. The site at Candlestick Point was chosen because of the price of land. Construction on the stadium began in August of 1958.
The San Francisco 49ers were the first major league professional sports franchise based in San Francisco, and one of the first professional sports teams based on the West Coast of the United States. The 49ers have won five NFL championships – all Super Bowls. (They share the Super Bowl win record with the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers.) They were the first team to win a record five Super Bowls (Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV, and XXIX) and are the only team among those who have played more than one Super Bowl to never lose a Super Bowl game. They are considered "The Team of the Eighties", winning four Super Bowls in the decade. Prior to the 80s, the 49ers had never won an NFL championship (they did not even win a division title until 1970). During the 1980s, they failed to make the playoffs only twice — in 1980, and again in the strike-shortened 1982 season which saw them go 0-5 at home and 3-1 on the road — the only time in NFL history that a team went winless at home while winning more than half its away games in the same season.
Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers have announced an expansion in their tiered ticket price structure. The team has added new $71 and $98 price options, giving fans six choices ranging from $25 to $98 per ticket. Seats for single games will range from $25 to $113. Seats in a number of sections will ... be reorganized in different price categories, resulting in season ticket prices increasing from $64 to $71.

San Francisco 49ers tickets and a trip to Monster Park should be one of the more interesting NFL excursions in 2006. The 49ers carry a great history, evoking the memory of NFL greats like Joe Montana and Steve Young. The onus is on Alex Smith to carry on that great tradition and head coach Mike Nolan has been actively revamping the roster to give Smith the tools necessary to do the job. Nolan has cleaned house to the extent that only six players remain on the roster from the team he inherited after the 2004 season. The massive overhaul points to a franchise that should be vastly improved over the 4-12 unit of 2005, giving Bay area fans a host of reasons to enjoy their San Francisco 49ers tickets in 2006.
The San Francisco 49ers began play in 1946 as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference and officially joined the NFL in 1950. The team currently shares the record for most Super Bowl victories (5!) with the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are considered one of the greatest teams in NFL history with their historic franchise, some of the best players ever to play the game, and their miraculous plays on the field.
