The San Diego Padres were a minor league baseball team which played in the Pacific Coast League from 1936 through 1968. The team that would eventually become the Padres was well traveled prior to moving to San Diego. It began its existence in 1903 as the Sacramento Solons, a charter member of the PCL. The team moved to Tacoma in 1904 (where it won the PCL pennant), returned to Sacramento in 1905, then left the PCL altogether for the next three seasons. The Solons rejoined the PCL in 1909, then moved to San Francisco during the 1914 season, finishing out the season as the San Francisco Missions. The team was sold to businessman Bill "Hardpan" Lane, who moved the team to Salt Lake City for the 1915 season as the Salt Lake Bees.
Padres Pictures The San Diego Padres are a Major League Baseball team based in San Diego , California . They are in the Western Division of the National League. The Padres made their first playoff appearance in 1998 with an 82-80 record. They could have done better with 90 winning games and be a winner of the World Series championship that year. So the club is planning to do what they couldn't do in 1998. San Diego was division championships during last year, so with all their hopes high they have marked an entry this year. The Padres will go as far as the back end of their rotation takes them.

Home to the San Diego Padres since April 2004, Petco Park has as its mission to be more than a ballpark—to serve as a large-scale city planning project. For the first time in professional sports, a franchise was required to invest hundreds of millions in at-risk capital for the development of the neighborhood surrounding its publicly owned facility.
The San Diego Padres played their first game at Petco Park on April 8, 2004 against the San Francisco Giants. The $411 million ballpark has a Southern California look and feel to it with its white steel, sandstone facade and palm/jacaranda trees. Petco Park is a baseball only stadium with a grass field. Leading up to the entrance of the ballpark, fans pass by a palm court and water walls. Once inside the new ballpark, all fans have an excellent view of the field. All of the 42,500 blue seats are close to the field and are angled toward the pitchers mound.
San Diego Padres The San Diego Padres turned out an impressive performance in the 2006 MLB season, taking first place in the National League West with a win average of .543. With new, rookie manager Bud Black at the helm the Padres are ready to take their third straight division title. Adding pitcher Greg Maddux to the already illustrious rotation including Chris Young, Jack Peavy, David Wells and Clay Hensley just may give the Padres the edge they need to get all the way to the 2007 World Series.
