The San Diego Chargers - New England Patriots game this weekend was a heartbreaking ordeal for southern California fans. The comeback Chargers lost the game 24-21 in the last quarter. The unexpected loss came after an eight-point lead early in the forth quarter. They were neutralizing Patriots QB Tom Brady throughout the game.

In 1995, the San Diego Chargers, coached by Bobby Ross, made their first and only Super Bowl appearance against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX in Miami. They got to the Super Bowl by winning the AFC West Division championship behind a strong defense led by linebacker Junior Seau and safety Rodney Harrison and an offense keyed by running back Natrone Means, and then gaining upset victories over the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC playoffs. The underdog Chargers lost to the 49ers, led by quarterback Steve Young and wide receiver Jerry Rice, 49-26.

The San Diego Chargers met with Auburn University OT King Dunlap Thursday, Feb. 21. Dunlap, who was listed as 6-foot-8 and 320 pounds before the combine, weighed in at 6-foot-8, 310 pounds at the combine. He has reportedly been sick and has lost some weight due to the illness.

Two new fires erupted overnight in both Los Angeles and San Diego counties and burned quickly. But in the celebrity enclave of Malibu, north of Los Angeles, where the first fire raged early Sunday, there was no active burning and 500 of the 1,400 firefighters were dispatched to other areas.
