San Antonio-based Cinco Solar Inc. is working with the Army Residence Community to install solar hot water systems in the retirement community's 180 cottages and is ... helping ARC obtain an Energy Star rating for its planned 16,408-sf Wellness Center. The new $4 million structure will consist of two stories with an outpatient therapy center on the second floor, and office space, a bistro and sports lounge on the first floor. Ground has been broken, and the Wellness Center is slated for completion in early 2009. The Army Residence Community, near Randolph Air Force Base, is a self-contained retirement community founded in 1987 and is home to 600 retired career military officers representing all branches of service, their spouses, widows and widowers. The ARC has negotiated a $15,000 contract with Cinco Solar to act as a consultant on the project to ensure the new facility is energy efficient based on the Energy Star program requirements. The Energy Star program will make the Wellness Center 33 percent to 50 percent more energy efficient than similar buildings without the Energy Star rating.
After the Civil War, with the arrival of the railroad in 1877, San Antonio prospered as a major shipping point for cattle. A San Antonio company is planning to build 35 townhomes in Westover Hills. Luis Escobar, president of EG&A Investment Property Inc., has drawn two investors from northern Mexico and expects to start building the Cascada Townhomes this summer. Escobar recently closed on seven acres near Rogers Road and Westover Hills Boulevard. The two- and three-bedroom townhomes will average about 2,000 square feet. The townhome shells will sell for about $250,000; finished out, they'll cost about $320,000 to about $350,000. The company expects to begin building in July or August, and a marketing campaign will begin in June.
