San Antonio Spurs The San Antonio Spurs are a National Basketball Association team based in San Antonio , Texas . The Spurs are one of seven teams in the Midwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association. The Franchise plays in the Alamodome in San Antonio , Texas and wear jerseys of black and white. Initially as a trial run the Dallas Chaparrals were moved to San Antonio after they were purchased by a group of local businessmen. The agreement was that the team would move to San Antonio for 3 years, if after that they had not drawn enough interest the team would be sold back to Dallas . The franchise is the only major professional sports franchise to be located in the San Antonio area. The Spurs franchise regularly qualified for the postseason in its first 20 years, both as a member of the now-defunct ABA and after joining the NBA following the 1975-76 season. Led by center David Robinson and forward Tim Duncan the Spurs advanced to the 1999 NBA Finals for the first time.
Like Tim Duncan's post moves, San Antonio Spurs tickets should be a fundamental of any diehard NBA basketball fan. Duncan is the game's premier player. He does it without flash and with little style, but his game was solid enough to lead the Spurs to the 2005 NBA title. The Wake Forest product has plenty of support in point guard Tony Parker and smooth Manu Ginobili to bring another trophy to the SBC Center in San Antonio . It's truly a great time to be a Spurs fans. It seems like time never change.
San Antonio Spurs logo from 1973-1989 The San Antonio Spurs started out as the Dallas Chaparrals of the original version of the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1967. Led by Player/Coach Cliff Hagan the Dallas Chaparrals were one of 11 teams to take the floor in the inaugural season of the upstart ABA. The Chaps second season was a bit of a disappointment, as the team finished in 4th place with a mediocre 41-37 record. In the playoffs the Chaparrals quickly fell to the New Orleans Buccaneers. The team suffered from poor attendance and general disinterest in Dallas. In fact, during the 1970-71 season, the name "Dallas" was dropped in favor of "Texas" and an attempt was made to make the team a regional one, playing games in Fort Worth, Texas, at the Tarrant County Coliseum, as well as Lubbock, Texas, at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum, but this proved a failure and the team returned full-time to Dallas in time for the 1971-72 season, splitting their games at Moody Coliseum and Dallas Convention Center Arena.[2]
The San Antonio Spurs powered through their early season struggles and came on strong to finish out the season, putting a tremendous amount of pressure on Phoenix in an attempt to wrest away the second seed in the Western Conference. The Spurs boast perhaps the best roster continuity of any team in the NBA, with stalwarts Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, and Bowen being a fixture in the San Antonio lineup for the past 5 seasons. The continuity and chemistry this team has should serve as an example of what is best in basketball, as the team has successfully implemented a series of well-seasoned veteran role players over the years to bolster the strength of the teams main core. While the Spurs remain one of the favorites to win the title this season, there is little doubt that the team is reaching a point where an infusion of new talent is needed.

The good fortunes of the San Antonio Spurs can be traced back to the 1988 draft lottery when they somehow managed to win the rights to the #1 pick and took center David Robinson from the US Naval Academy. The team did quite well for itself in the Midwestern Division in the Western Conference but routinely stumble in the playoffs. The most epic of these came in 1995, when Robinson won the MVP award, but got out played by Houston's center Hakeem Olajuwon in the Western Conference Finals. The Spurs lost that series in six games. Robinson then injured himself during the 1997 season and the team lost a franchise record 62 games.
The San Antonio Spurs believe that to keep fans coming back, they have to do more than put a top-notch team on the court. They need to entertain fans from the minute they come through the turnstiles. And to do that, they partner with VEE.
