Salvatore Adamo (born 1 November, 1943 in Comiso, Sicily, Italy) is one of the most commercially successful singers in Europe, Japan and Latin America. Adamo has sold over 90 million copies of his albums worldwide. He has lived in Belgium near the city of Mons since 1947 though he has lived in France with his family. His hits include "Tombe la Neige", "Vous permettez, Monsieur?" and "Inch Allah", all from the sixties.

Salvatore Adamo was born 1 November 1943 in Comiso, Sicily, Italy. His father Antonio, a well digger, emigrated to Belgium in February 1947 to work in the mines of Marcinelle, and in June of the same year, his wife, Concetta, a housewife, and their son Salvatore joined him in the town of Ghlin before moving to Jemappes. In 1950, Salvatore was bedridden for a year with meningitis. Salvatore's parents did not want their son to become a miner, so Salvatore went to a Catholic school run by the Frères des Ecoles Chrétiennes. By 1960 the family of Antonio and Concetta Adamo had seven children overall. Adamo grew up in Jemappes where he was a dedicated student at school and distinguished himself in Music and the arts, in general, from an early age, making an impression with his singing abilities.

His father, Antonio, was a well digger and his mother, Concetta, a housewife. In February 1947, Antonio went to work as a miner in Belgium. In June of that year, Concetta and her son emigrated in turn, joining Antonio in the town of Ghlin before moving to Jemappes. In 1950, Salvatore was bedridden for a year with meningitis.

Now solidly installed back in the limelight, Adamo makes frequent media appearances. The proliferation of golden oldies programmes partially explains this media comeback, but... his fans have gone on buying his albums and going to his concerts rain or shine. With his new album, "Regards", released in 98, Adamo proved his talent for blending tenderness and lucidity yet again.
