Over the past seven years in which Salvador has toured throughout the country and at times outside of it, a fan base began to rapidly grow. According to the members of the group, no matter how huge the fan base gets, they are still surprised and grateful to be a part of that environment, and even more surprising to them is that their fans keep coming and supporting.

This heritage has had an enormous influence on Salvador's culture, food, religion, and especially its music. Even in a country as musical as Brazil, Bahia stands out. The last 2 decades have seen an explosion in music that draws on African influences. A new term has been coined to describe an Afro-Brazilian blend of upbeat dance music: axé, from the Yorubá word for energy. Musical groups such as Olodum and Timbalada have blended complex African drumming rhythms with reggae melodies, while adding a dose of social activism to the mix.

Richard Boyle (James Woods) is a washed-up reporter who heads to civil war-stricken El Salvador for his chance at journalistic fame in Oliver Stone's film. The scrappy Boyle convinces disc jockey pal Dr. Rock (James Belushi) to join him as he digs for the perfect war story, but Boyle digs too deep. Realizing the danger he faces is more than he can handle, Boyle decides to flee with his Salvadoran girlfriend before the country is torn apart.

Representatives of CA-4 member countries are meeting during the event, as are members of the Maya World Organization (Organizacion Mundo Maya), which is composed of the following member countries: Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. The latter three countries cannot attend... due to internal scheduling issues.
