The Salt Lake Tribune is the largest-circulated daily newspaper in the U.S. city of Salt Lake City, Utah. The Salt Lake Tribune is distributed by Newspaper Agency Corporation, which ... distributes the Deseret Morning News. The Tribune — or "Trib," as it is locally known — is currently owned by the Denver-based Media News Group. For almost 100 years it was a family owned newspaper held by the heirs of U.S. Senator Thomas Kearns. After Thomas Kearns died in 1918 the company was controlled by his widow, Jennie Judge Kearns and son Thomas F. Kearns. The newspaper's long time publisher was John F. Fitzpatrick who started his career as Senator Kearns' secretary.

The Salt Lake Tribune is Utah’s largest contemporary newspaper. Like the Deseret Morning News, another major Utah newspaper, the paper is based in Salt Lake City, the State Capital of Utah. The Salt Lake Tribune was founded in 1871 as The Mormon Tribune. Some men who disagreed with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) viewpoints, decided to take it in their own hands and founded the Utah newspaper to be able to give their own view on the politics and economics of Utah. The main legislation in the State was influenced by the LDS Church, and the newspaper formed a welcome counter-weight to its religious tone.

The August 21, 2000 issue of the Salt Lake Tribune reported that senior pro golfer, Doug Tewell was delayed entering the Senior PGA tour due to spinal problems. Tewell injured his back while playing a round of golf with his son in Oklahoma. The injury kept him in bed for three days and required the use of a walker for two weeks. On the recomendation of fellow pro Bob Tway, Tewell decided to see a chiropractor. His comments in the Tribune article summed up his reactions, "the most incredible thing, just a few little jerks," Tewell said. "I thought I had met Oral Roberts."

The Salt Lake Tribune says, "Utah's children are its future, deserving of our best, and that includes children who attend school at home." Perhaps Massachusetts and Rhode Island think of children as the property of the state, but Utah citizens are more likely to believe that children are a gift of God, entrusted to parents, and not the mere creature of the state. While more "progressive" states may insist that "it takes a village to raise a child," Utah has a fine tradition of family freedom and parental responsibility. The Utah legislature recognizes and respects the role that parents play in childrearing. The Salt Lake Tribune lacks that degree of respect.

The operation of the Salt Lake newspapers is divided between three companies in a joint operating agreement. The two newspapers remain fiercely competitive and editorially independent, but their advertising, printing, circulation and business functions are managed by a third company, the Newspaper Agency Corporation. This arrangement gives readers the variety of two perspectives on the news, while giving advertisers maximum penetration into the growing Salt Lake market.
