In June, 1999 Ride joined space.com, a website about the space industry, as Executive Vice President and member of its Board of Directors. In September, 1999 she was named President of the company, a position she held until September, 2000.

Dr. Ride stressed the importance of teaching children science in a world that is constantly making technological advancements. They need to understand science to live their daily lives and they need to know that science is a career opportunity.
After the Challenger exploded in 1986, Ride joined the team responsible for investigating the tragedy. Afterward, she worked at NASA headquarters in Washington D.C, where she wrote a report called "Leadership and America's Future in Space."

After graduating from high school in 1968, Ride enrolled in the physics program at Swarthmore College, in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. However, she continued to devote a large amount of time and energy to tennis and soon left college to work on her game full time. Tennis pro Billie Jean King (1943–) told Ride she had the talent to pursue a professional career in tennis.
