The Salem Avalanche, Advanced Class-A Affiliate of the 2005 NL Champion Houston Astros, has been providing the Roanoke (VA) Valley with top-notch professional baseball for over a half-century. Founded in 1955, the Avalanche joined the elite Carolina League in 1968 and completed their 40th season in the League in 2007. Under Hardball Capital's guidance, the Avalanche set all-time records for attendance and profitability in 2007.

The Avalanche plays its home games at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The 6,300-seat ballpark opened in August 1995, and has hosted more than 2.5 million fans since the stadium's inaugural game. With 12 skyboxes, a stadium club and multiple picnic areas, Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field is one of the premier facilities in the Carolina League.

Salem Memorial Stadium was constructed for the brand new Salem Avalanche, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in time for the 1995 season. The 2001 season saw Salem’s fourth Carolina League Championship as the Avalanche won the title after reaching the playoffs as a Wild Card.

Toole, a native of Columbia, South Carolina, accepted the position as Chief Executive Officer of the South Coast League after serving two years as Vice President and General Manager of the Salem Avalanche in the Carolina League. Prior to joining the Avalanche in 2003, Toole served as the Assistant Director of Florida Baseball Operations for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Toole has ... had stints as Director of Stadium Operations for both the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Carolina League and the Joliet JackHammers of the Northern League. He was involved with the opening of Silver Cross Field, one of minor league baseball’s marquee facilities, located in downtown Joliet, Illinois. The Carolina League has approved the sale of the Salem Avalanche, Class A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, to the Fenway Sports Group (FSG). The transaction, announced at a press conference this afternoon at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field in Salem, Va., is now subject to the approval of Major League Baseball.
