SPEAKING OF cutting remarks, Sacha Baron Cohen is trying to cut his co-star, Johnny Depp, dead. These two are filming the Stephen Sondheim musical "Sweeney Todd" at Pinewood Studios in London -- wherein Cohen plays barber Adolfo Pirelli and Depp plays Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street. There is a competititon to see which actor can best shave another person with a straight razor. The "Borat" star put his own real life barber on the payroll as adviser and has had 16 hours of razor training. They say that Cohen has had problems with singing Sondheim's lyrics and that he has been given permission by the film's director, Tim Burton, to sing in a rap style. Cohen has to warble and shave customers at the same time in this film.

(FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES) – Sacha Baron Cohen will play 1960s Vietnam War protester Abbie Hoffman for The Trial of the Chicago Seven, a project Steven Spielberg is developing for DreamWorks, according to London's Sunday Times newspaper. Variety reports that reps for Spielberg would neither confirm nor deny the report, which claims that Spielberg persuaded the actor to join the project. The movie tells the story of the seven protesters who were put on trial after disrupting the 1968 Democratic Party convention with a Vietnam War protest, which was met with fierce police resistance. Hoffman was one of the seven who had to fight charges of inciting a riot. DreamWorks worked out a deal with Aaron Sorkin in July to write the script. Spielberg is producing alongside Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.

A DRIVERS education instructor is suing the makers of Borat, claiming Sacha Baron Cohen and 20th Century Fox took him for a wild, life-threatening ride. Michael Psenicska was duped into participating in the film believing it was "a documentary about the integration of foreign people into the American way of life," according to a suit filed in Manhattan federal court seeking $400,000 in damages. Instead, Psenicska encountered Cohen's "kissie huggie" routine. Then, Cohen "attempted to engage the seatbelt on by wrapping it between his legs, and twisting it all different ways, and struggling like a child," the suit says. The comic, playing a phony Kazakh reporter, then took off down the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic. When Psenicska protested, the suit states, Cohen rolled down the window and offered a female pedestrian $10 for "sexy time" and hollered "Chocolate man!" to a black pedestrian.
