Sacajawea: Sacajawea Peak
built 606 days ago
Sacajawea Peak | Oregon Climbs Preview: Sacajawea Peak is the tallest mountain in the Wallowa Mountains. At least it is the current tallest peak, the alternate tallest peak being the Matterhorn at 9824 feet. For some reason the designation of the tallest peak in the Wallowas is frequently under dispute, although it matters little. Scrambling to the summit of Sacajawea will reward you with dramatic views across the banded slopes of one of the Wallowas’ most distinctive high peaks. The dragontail north ridge looks quite rugged and dramatic from the summit and has a daunting reputation as an extreme scramble. To the north the white slopes of Matterhorn gently climb toward its rounded summit.

Sacajawea is the highest peak in the Bridger Range. The views from the top are superb. If it's a busy hiking day, go up Sacajawea's twin, Hardscrabble, when you reach the saddle. It can be windy and cold at the top. If you're ambitious, you can go for a swim in Fairy Lake when you reach the bottom.
