1997 Saab 9-5 V6 at Linköping, Sweden, on the occasion of SAAB's Diamond Jubilee Saab Automobile AB is a subsidiary of General Motors. Once an exclusively Swedish automobile maker, Saab Automobile now manufactures cars in Japan, the USA and Sweden. Until 1990 the company was owned by SAAB, an acronym for "Svenska Aeroplan AB" (The Swedish Aeroplane Company), which ... included SAAB Aerospace and truck manufacturer Scania. General Motors bought half of Saab Automobile in 1990, with an option to acquire the entire company within a decade. Before exercising that option GM shared its ownership of Saab Automobile with Investor AB, the main owner of Saab.

Saab Automobile AB is a Sweden manufacturer of premium cars and currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors. It is the exclusive automobile royal warrant holder as appointed by the H.M., the King of Sweden. On April 21-22, the dealer council will meet in Sweden for the first time under Jan-Ake Jonsson, a Saab veteran named the brand's managing director. He is based in Sweden. But the new chairman of the Saab Automobile board is Carl-Peter Forster, president of GM Europe. Saab believes the current 9-3 portfolio has the most short-term potential to boost volume. Saab will add a 9-3 sports wagon this spring. Said Janse: "It could generate 60 percent of 9-3 sales." Saab dealers ... want the 9-3 all-wheel-drive version promised three years ago.

Saab Automobile is now certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 environmental management system or SS-EN SO 14001:1996, as it is officially known. At a ceremony in Trollhättan, Anders Jonsson of Det Norske Veritas certification body handed over the certificate to Peter Augustsson, President of Saab.
