Ryanair: Services
built 260 days ago
The launch of the service was set to take place last year but Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary said regulatory approval was taking longer than expected to secure. The results of tests should be in by March, allowing Ryanair to operate aircraft with the service after this date.
Ryanair is following the path of easyGroup, the largest shareholder of easyJet PLC (EZJ.LN), which has launched a mobile phone service in the U.K. under the brand name easyMobile. EasyMobile is a virtual mobile operator, in that it leases capacity from mobile network operators to offer services to consumers.
singapore-airlines-bolt.jpg It’s official: Ryanair is allowing inflight use of mobile phones, with service provided via OnAir. The airline takes a cut of the roaming charge. For the notoriously no-frills airline, does this count as a frill?
Ryanair has been heavily criticised for many of its practices in the past. In a number of incidents it has responded stubbornly to relatively trivial matters, often to make a point about the constant need to avoid adding "frills" to its service.

EU deregulation of the air industry in Europe in 1992 gave carriers from one EU country the right to operate scheduled services between other EU states, and represented a major opportunity for Ryanair. After a successful flotation on the Dublin Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ Stock exchanges, the airline launched services to Stockholm, Oslo (Sandefjord Airport, Torp, 110 km south of Oslo), Paris and Charleroi near Brussels. Flush with new capital, the airline placed a massive $2 billion order for 45 new Boeing 737-800 series aircraft in 1998.
