Ryan Briscoe: Rookie Ryan Briscoe
built 606 days ago
The race began with two Toyota-powered cars pulling away from the field as rookie Ryan Briscoe (Target Pioneer Toyota) led Helio Castroneves (Marlboro Team Penske Toyota) for the first 16 laps. Unfortunately, after dropping to sixth and seventh, respectively, after their first pit stops, both were eliminated in the same Lap 20 crash. Briscoe had won his first career pole on Saturday.

Briscoe is not a rookie, a point he proved when he accepted a ride this year in the Indianapolis 500. Racing for the Luczo Dragon Racing team with equipment leased from the Penske stables, Briscoe finished fifth. In a twist of fate, Hornish was fourth and the Aussie's new teammate Helio Castroneves was third.

"I don't know what he's doing," said Briscoe, a rookie in 2005. "He's won the championship, but I think he's got to settle down a bit. It's unfortunate because it was looking like an awesome result."
