Ryan Briscoe: Indycar Series
built 606 days ago
Rookie Ryan Briscoe (Target Pioneer Toyota) captured the pole position and Helio Castroneves (Marlboro Team Penske Toyota) gave Toyota a sweep of the front row in qualifying for Sunday’s Argent Mortgage Indy Grand Prix at Infineon Raceway. Today’s qualifying marked the second consecutive IndyCar Series race that Toyota-powered cars have captured both front-row starting positions.
LOS ANGELES, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Luczo-Dragon Racing, LLC announced today that IndyCar Series veteran Ryan Briscoe will attempt to qualify the #12 Symantec Dallara Honda for the 2007 Indianapolis 500-mile race. The team will lease equipment from Penske Racing, Inc., winners of 14 Indianapolis 500-mile races.
Ryan Briscoe has been named Toyota's second test driver for the 2004 season. The young Australian is not going to be racing in any other series but there are rumours that he might be seen testing for Minardi, the deal being paid for by Toyota, which is keen for Briscoe to get as many miles as possible in F1 machinery. Briscoe is rumoured to have been talking to Minardi for some time but did not have the money to compete with Zsolt Baumgartner.

BRISCOE LOOKS TO TEND TO UNFINISHED BUSINESS – In returning to a road course for the first time since St. Petersburg, IndyCar Series rookie Ryan Briscoe (Target Pioneer Toyota) will attempt to secure his first IndyCar Series win. Briscoe had a victory barely escape his grasp at St. Pete where he led a race-high 43 laps only to be spun while leading on Lap 92 of 100 in an incident with another driver.
Briscoe heads into the 2008 season with 19 career IndyCar Series starts over the past three seasons. He ran 14 of the 17 events in 2005 for Target Chip Ganassi Racing, highlighted by a pole at Infineon Raceway and three top-10 finishes. His 2005 season was cut short following a serious accident suffered at Chicagoland Speedway. In 2006, Briscoe ran four races and earned his first IndyCar Series podium finish (third) at Watkins Glen International. Briscoe ... demonstrated his versatility as a driver that year by competing in five different series including the IndyCar Series, the Grand-Am Series and the Champ Car Series, as well as the A1GP and V8 Supercar Enduros in his native Australia.
Briscoe will have big shoes to fill in that of Sam Hornish Jr. who recently signed with Penske’s NASCAR Sprint Cup program to drive the No. 77 Dodge next year. Joining the most successful IndyCar racing team in history with 134 victories, the young road-racing specialist feels he is up to the challenge. Driving the No. 12 car for Luczo Dragon Racing in this past year’s 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500, Briscoe finished an impressive fifth. Briscoe’s road course racing resume includes his first career pole at Infineon Raceway in 2005 and his career-best third-place finish at The Glen in 2006. Briscoe added to his success at The Glen in a DP car with the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series placing third in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen and placing second in the Crown Royal 200 for SunTrust Racing in 2006.
