Ryan Adams: Artists
built 645 days ago
Ever since Rock N Roll, the real Ryan Adams has stood up. However much he may have enjoyed that experiment, the disparity in quality between then and now proves he is no chameleon. True artistry doesn't come with diversity or the ability to turn one's hand to a variety to styles. That's not to say he doesn't have a style, it being evident that his essence lies in melancholic reflection in balladry. And yes, he operates best when using the palette that is country music. But from these foundations, sometimes it seems like he is telling the whole history of America in a song.

Mixing the heartfelt angst of a singer/songwriter with the cocky brashness of a garage rocker, Ryan Adams is at once one of the few artists to emerge from the alt-country scene to achieve mainstream commercial success. He is the one who most strongly refused to be defined by the genre, leaping from one spot to another stylistically as he follows his increasingly prolific muse.

Has nothing to do with Ryan Adams, except that both Duritz and Adams are whores and plageurists. They represent Karaoke for those that are too lazy to look up the original artists.

Once again his voice morphs from song to song, leaving you leafing through the CD sleeve to find the collaborating artists before realizing, oh, that's Ryan. He can croon, drawl, shout, hum, and moan - let's face it, the guy can sing.
