"As people hit the road this spring and summer, Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 with GPS Locator is the perfect way to find the most efficient route possible," Wallace said. "I'm going to be on the road a lot this summer, and I always use this program to plan out my trip in advance, so I get to my destination without spending extra money on gas."

Even though Wallace said he was comfortable with his decision, it was remarks from his oldest son, Greg, that brought tears to his eyes. Greg, who was joined on stage by his mother, Patti; his sister, Katie; and his younger brother Steve, described the day as "a strange and very difficult day for all of us."

NASCAR did not dock any points from Wallace; since the season hasn't started, he doesn't even have any. That's a break from the pattern NASCAR began last season of docking 25 points in the penalty process.
