Rusty Wallace: Drivers
built 290 days ago
Jimmie Johnson, last weekend's winner at Dover, DE, had his rear shocks confiscated by the France Family Henchmen NASCAR officials, along with Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman, Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin and Greg Biffle. The reason? Other drivers were complaining about the height of the cars' rear ends. While they all passed initial tech inspection, Johnson and Busch's cars failed the first time around until the shocks were given time to settle. Ironically, Busch made a comment to his crew chief about the height of Johnson's car during the race. Pot calling the kettle black, Kyle?

Wallace ... said that he's been contacted about returning to the Cup series next season. There will be at least seven new rides next season, creating questions on if there are enough talented and experienced drivers for all the available Cup rides. Bill Elliott, who last drove fulltime in 2003, could be headed to Team Red Bull. Ward Burton, who last raced full time in 2004, also is looking for a ride.

On August 30, 2004 Wallace announced that the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season would be his last as a full-time driver. Although at the time the possibility remained that he may have continued to run a limited schedule after the 2005 season -- as semi-retirees Bill Elliott and Terry Labonte ... have done, Wallace's current broadcasting contract forbids him from doing so.

Wallace won 10 times in 1993, but finished second to Earnhardt. His string of 16 years in a row with a victory was broken in 2002. The string was the best of all active drivers.
