Rush Limbaugh: Programs
built 221 days ago
A second inference Limbaugh derives from the metaphor is that liberal social programs both foster illegitimacy and are illegitimate themselves. Limbaugh believes that in taking from the taxpayers to give to the poor, the government is illegitimately usurping the role of the providing father in the nuclear family. By giving the poor what they want but did not earn for themselves, the government is fostering illegitimacy, dependency, and laziness. This dependency is exhibited in the proliferation of fatherless families. That is, since the government is providing them with the income that is normally provided by fathers, these families can subsist without fathers. Further, a fatherless family is a replica of a liberal vision of society--a family of pigs headed by a sow who does not provide for herself but is provided for by others.
Limbaugh's first television exposure came with a 1990 guest host stint on Pat Sajak's late-night program on CBS. This ended badly when on one show Limbaugh got into a confrontation with some ACT-UP protesters who heckled his show and he had the studio audience cleared before continuing. A video of this event can be watched here: [4]

In Chapter 16 of “The Way Things Ought To Be” Rush talked about how Willie Horton brutally raped a woman after he was allowed out of a Massachusetts prison on a furlough program while Michael Dukakis was governor. Rush, of course, refers to this as the “Dukakis furlough program” and blames Dukakis for the whole affair.

[O]f his television program, Limbaugh became known for wearing distinctive neckties. In response to viewer interest, Limbaugh launched a series of ties[37] designed primarily by his then-wife Marta.[38] Sales of the ties reached over five million dollars (U.S.) in their initial sales year, but were later discontinued.
