Runaways launched in 2002 as part of Marvel Comics' "Tsunami" imprint. After Marvel cancelled the Tsunami imprint in January 2003, the series moved to the "Marvel Age" imprint - as such, the individual story arcs for "Runaways" are collected in small, manga-sized trade paperbacks, but the hardcover compilations are compiled in normal sized books. In September 2004, the series ended at issue #18. Marvel revived the series in February 2005 and it has continued ever since.

RUNAWAYS is one of about a half-dozen titles that Marvel introduced this past spring as part of their new Tsunami line. The Tsunami comics are influenced by the manga style of art and are aimed at a more general, non-comics reading audience with an emphasis on themes and characterization that might particularly appeal to younger female readers. If Marvel's marketing plan works out, you'll be seeing trade paperbacks of collected Tsunami titles on the shelf next to the other manga titles in the graphic novels section of your local Borders and Barnes & Noble bookstores.

Runaways is what the X-men should be. It's a complete throwback to the original teenage superheros, only instead of professor x, they have a dinosaur and a crazy ass book. It's really some of the best comic book writing in years.
