B[R]aided rugs have been warming hearths and homes of Americans for over 200 years. With a little American ingenuity, the Colonists began sewing rags and scraps of wool into long strips. These strips were then hand braided and sewn into durable braided rugs for their simple homes. These colorful braided rugs have stood the test of time and are still an important design element today.

The Germantown and Eye Dazzler rugs were a result of the introduction of commercial dyes and yarns by the early traders. The weavers' use of colors and complex, wild designs were unlimited. Today's Navajo weavers have done an outstanding job of recreating the excitement and look of the early Germantown and Eye Dazzler weavings.

Rugs in hallways – Length is optional. Try to place the rug in an area where it does not end in the middle of a doorway. In very long halls, several smaller runners can work. They do not have to be matching, but colors should coordinate.
