Rudra is the early Indian form of the later Hindu god Åšiva (see Åšiva). Rudra means “one who roars.†Some scholars see Rudra as originally a non-Aryan (see Aryans) fertility god of the Indus Valley (see Indus Valley Mythology), a god whose symbol was the bull and who is sometimes depicted in the posture of a yogi. All of these aspects suggest a link to the later Åšiva. In the á¹›g Veda (see á¹›g Veda), Rudra—whose wife's name, Pá¹›Asni, means “water bagâ€â€”is a bringer of life-giving rain and other boons. As a fertility god he is represented by the phallus, or liṇga (see Liṇga), which will take on increased importance in the Åšiva cult. Like Åšiva, he is a destroyer, whose arrows are feared by all, and sometimes he seems to deny the ancient Vedic (see Vedic entries) sacrifice.

Rudra is one of the most significant Vedic gods. There are a number of hymns in the Rig Veda about Rudra, and three of them are solely dedicated to him. Rudra is the supreme Warrior, the divine Fighter, the God of Power. He is terrible according to the human view: he is dynamic according to the divine view. In the popular understanding of Indian mythology, Rudra is the Storm-God or Thunder-God. It is said that he creates thunder with his arm and uses lightening bolts from the sky.

The major technical difference that Rudra has with other anti-virus applications is that it requires no updates since it does not work on the basis of virus signature. According to Yashvardhan Poddar, Project Head, TCLAPL, “The modus operandi of this product is that it has got processed filters and it maintains snapshot of the system's specs and constantly monitors for any type of unauthorized intrusions. As soon as the filters detects any intrusion trying to do any malicious activity in the system, it immediately identifies the source and blocks that program, and based on the severity of the threat either quarantines or deletes the operation.” Rudra is a one-time installation product where the customer has to pay only once. “Since no update is required, the product ... doesn't require any renewal,” said Poddar. The end-user cost of Rudra is Rs 1,800.

Rudra has a great ear for music and a warm sympathy for the era in which Quintessence first appeared. But he is certainly no musical traditionalist. Read the interview section with Rudra on this website to discover just how avant-garde he really is. Rudra’s musical legacy is rich but in a very different way from Shiva’s, and he knows his way about a bewildering mix of musical genres, including Kraut Rock, all Electronic music, and some of the more avant-garde rock bands of the early 70s like Van Der Graaf Generator and Hawkwind.

Rudra vina ... known as the bin (been), appears to be one of the oldest styles of vina. Such evidence is readily seen in elements of its construction, and from its depiction on the walls of ancient temples. This instrument is basically a bamboo stick with two gourds attached. It has frets which are set into wax. This instrument is quite rare nowadays.
