Rubens Barrichello is in his second season with Hondaafter six years at Ferrari. Rubens Barrichello joined F1 in 1993 at 20 at the Jordan team, where he impressed the paddock with his speed and daring. A protégé of his countryman Ayrton Senna, Barrichello's great beginning was suddenly shattered when Senna was killed the following year. Barrichello had to rebuild his confidence, then joined Ferrari as Michael Schumacher's faithful teammate and won his first races.
Rubens Barrichello had one of the fastest climbs from karting to Formula One than any other active driver. By the age of 17, he had five national karting titles, and promptly went on to win the GM Euroseries in the same year. Formula 3 came next, where he won the title in 1991 for West Surrey Racing. He had less success the next year, when he tried Formula 3000, but he came third overall and was ready for Formula One by his 21st birthday - a rarity at the time

Rubens Barrichello - in the Wheeltracks of Senna Book When he graduated to Formula 1 in 1993 Rubens Barrichello looked a potential star. By 1996 - still grieving the death of his mentor Ayrton Senna - Rubens seemed a 'might have been', struggling with an uncompetitive Jordan. However in 1999, driving for Jackie Stewart, he proved a mature performer and Ferrari beckoned. The Brazilian is a rare mix - tough enough to be Michael Schumacher's fastest-ever team-mate yet so gentle off-track that he is the most popular driver in the paddock. This is his rollercoaster story.

Five times the Brazilian karting champion, Rubens Barrichello arrived in Europe as a shy 17-year old at the beginning of 1990, having contested only 11 Formula Ford races in his native country. He came to compete in the GM Lotus Euroseries – one of the first rungs on the ladder to Formula One – with backing from Arisco (a Brazilian food conglomerate), which intended to take him all the way to the top. In the comfortable environment provided by Scuderia Salvati Draco, Rubens quickly became the season’s front-runner, winning five rounds and the title. This triumph earned him a seat in Dick Bennetts' West Surrey Racing F3 team for 1991. It was success again as Rubens came through late in the season to win the title when his main rival, David Coulthard, stumbled.
Rubens Barrichello Ferrari's second driver, Rubens Barrichello, announced today that he will depart from Ferrari at the end of the season. Barrichello was with the team since 2000, won nine Grand Prix, helping win five constructor titles. He will most likely continue his career in BAR.
