If you ever dreamt about making you very own RPG masterpiece, RPG Maker 2 will make that dream a reality. A certain level of patience is required, but RPG Maker 2 is far from programming in computer language. The user interface is basically drag-and-drop, with plenty of customization – and some basic scripting – sprinkled throughout. Speaking of customization, the game allows you to create virtually all aspects of the game to your specifications. There are about 100 pre-made characters and non-player characters (NPCs) that you can further edit (colors, size, wardrobe). The same goes for monsters - there are about 120 enemy models that can be altered in appearance.

RMXP is the first in the RPG Maker series to feature the Ruby programming language, which adds greater flexibility and enhancement to the RPG Maker scripting system. To make it easier for beginners to customize their project the program uses a kit called the Ruby Game Scripting System (RGSS), of predefined classes and program code for the standard functions of an RPG-like game. While the system is quite easy to learn and use effectively, more experienced programmers can create more complex systems with it, the only limits really being the software itself.
