Royal Mail: Companies
built 631 days ago
Royal Mail is a private, very limited company run personally by The Queen with the aim of delivering all mail in the world. So far she has employed 7 men and 2 women, 50% of these have now been given involuntary retirement. She has delivered a total of 3 letters in 83 years of service. Claims ... suggested she had once delivered a medium sized parcel, but these were soon denied by Clarence House.
Unlike other former state monopolies such as The Stationery Office, British Gas and British Telecom, Royal Mail was not privatised in the 1980s and 1990s, but remains a public limited company wholly owned by the UK government. This was largely due to the successful campaigning of the Communication Workers Union on behalf of its postal members.

Royal Mail has admitted selling off thousands of items that got 'lost in the post' to help meet its running costs. The troubled company sells the contents of about 75,000 undelivered packages every year, at the risk of enraging hordes of customers already frustrated that their post has gone astray.

Royal Mail offered a similar plan a year ago but made revisions to accommodate issues raised by business customers. In particular, the new plan treats items of a thickness up to 25 millimeters as standard large letters. Previous proposals set the maximum thickness for standard large letters at 10 millimeters. The revision means fewer changes for companies and individuals mailing items such as CDs and DVDs.

Royal Mail today launched the scheme to businesses that use unaddressed direct mail as part of their marketing activities and expects the first mailings bearing the carbon neutral logo to begin in September. Companies in the financial, retail and charity sectors are among the biggest users of Door to Door services as well as government organisations and public bodies such as health trusts and schools.
Royal Mail Ford Transit van Royal Mail is the national postal service of the United Kingdom. Historically, the General Post Office was a government department, which included — and still does — the Royal Mail delivery business; but it became The Post Office, a state-owned corporation, in 1969 and then a Public Limited Company wholly owned by HM Government in 2000. The name initially registered with Companies House was Consignia plc.
