The Route 66 is an all original Dr.Z design based on the incredible KT-66 tube originally built by Genelex. This tube generates the "Milkshake Thick" tones, as heard on John Mayalls "Bluesbreaker" album featuring Eric Clapton (the "Beano Album" as it is known to many).

One of the popular Route 66 eating places is the Steak and Shake located at St. Louis and National. However, one of the favorite dishes of Springfield is cashew chicken, a pseudo-Chinese dish invented in Springfield and available at any of the numerous Chinese restaurants in the city. It is not, though, available at Steak and Shake!

Heading north from Route 118, Route 119 begins as a short path before reaching the southern-most point of a large field of tall grass. Because of the length of the grass, it is impossible to ride a Bicycle through the field, forcing trainers to walk through. As trainers enter the grass, it often begins to rain, and this affects all battles on the route. Mixed throughout the grass are six trainers, as well as two items. North of the field, Route 119 parallels a river for a short distance, allowing trainers to Surf across the river to gain access to another trainer, an item and another patch of grass.

Over time Route 66 got realigned a few times, you will need to make choices as to which alignment you will follow. A first example of such a major choice are the Santa Fe and Los Lunas loops that got cut-off by a more direct east-west route in 1937. Similarly, the alignment south of Springfield, IL changed significantly.

Following the terrible gas explosion in Richmond in 1968, Main Street (Route 40) was closed and a pedestrian mall was built. Route 40 was realigned on North A Street for westbound traffic and on South A Street for eastbound traffic.
