When first seen by the audience, Rose is working as a shop assistant at Henrik's department store in Regent Street, London. She has a boyfriend named Mickey Smith, and lives in a council flat with her mother Jackie in the fictitious Powell Estate. Rose left school without taking her A-levels but won the bronze medal in an under-sevens gymnastics competition at her junior school.[4] Her father, Pete Tyler died in 1987 in a car accident, the year after Rose was born.[5]

---Preparations---Red Rose petals are official in nearly all Pharmacopoeias. Though formerly employed for their mild astringency and tonic value, they are to-day used almost solely to impart their pleasant odour to pharmaceutical preparations. The British Pharmacopceia preparations are a Confection, Acid Infusion and a Fluid Extract. The Confection is directed to be made by beating 1 lb. of fresh Red Rose petals in a stone mortar with 3 lb. of sugar. It is mostly used in pill making. Formerly this was prescribed for haemorrhage of the lungs and for coughs.

Rose State College has developed under the guidelines established by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and has received full accreditation by that body. This accreditation assures the transferability of credits from this College to senior colleges and universities within the state of Oklahoma. This transferability has been further strengthened by an articulation policy which states that students who graduate with either an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science degree from the accredited community colleges within the state will be able to transfer and have lower-division general education requirements satisfied at most of the public colleges and universities within the state. According to Teer's account, Louis Moses Rose, was born in France in 1785. He served in Napoleon's army, and was later involved in a plot to restore Napoleon. The plot having failed, he was expelled from France and emigrated to the United States. He made his way to Texas, and in 1826 was a part of a company commanded by Hayden Edwards, who wrested the town of Nacogdoches from Mexican control. Rose decided to stay in Nacogdoches, and carried mail on a private contract between there and Natchitoches, Louisiana. Being of an adventureous nature, in 1832 he joined another Texas revolutionary army and was placed under the command of Colonel James Bowie.

After last seeing Rose, the Doctor would often become depressed at the mere mention of Rose, or whenever he is reminded of her. In "The Runaway Bride", he is reminded of Rose while attending a party, and a very brief clip of Rose from "New Earth" is used to illustrate this. Donna Noble, in "The Runaway Bride", discusses Rose with the Doctor, as does Martha Jones in the 2007 series.
