Rose McGowan is a showstopper in Grindhouse, playing Cherry Darling, a stripper who loses a leg and replaces it with a machine gun to fight a bunch of zombies. Rose hasn’t gotten this much attention since she was offed in Scream. Now, after the hit TV series Charmed, she’s back on the big screen in the double feature from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, playing not just the one-legged heroine in Planet Terror but a victim of a serial stalker in Deathproof.

A highly reliable source tells Elle.com exclusively that Rose McGowan is slipping into a fur bikini and major bouffant to take on the title role in the remake of Barbarella. Robert Rodriguez, who left his wife after falling for McGowan on the Grindhouse set, is directing and has cast his love in the part made famous by Jane Fonda. While the rumor mill placed everyone from Halle Berry to Kate Beckinsale and Nicole Kidman in the role of Queen of the Galaxy, it seems he’s found the perfect Barbarella in McGowan.

Rose McGowan -- Barbarella? You might have caught the news last week that the Barbarella remake was in trouble because Universal reportedly wasn't going to spend $100 million on a sci-fi, sexy-time romp with Rose McGowan. Sources claimed that Robert Rodriguez wasn't listening to everyone who warned him that Rose couldn't pull it off. IESB then went to Rodriguez about this whole mess, and he says the problem has always been the budget, and not the casting. He even says that the project might go back to Universal, and that they'll know in the next week. It should, because there's absolutely no reason that RR can't make this picture super cheap -- he's the king of making little money work.

MoviesOnline recently sat down with Rose McGowan to talk about her new movie, Grindhouse, a double dose from long time collaborators Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino that recalls both filmmakers’ favorite exploitation films. Tarantino’s Death Proof is a white knuckle ride behind the wheel of a psycho serial killer’s roving, revving, racing death machine. Rodriguez’s Planet Terror is a heart-pounding trip to a town ravaged by a mysterious plague. Inspired by the unique distribution of independent horror classics of the sixties and seventies, these two shockingly bold features are presented together on a drive-in style double bill, replete with fake trailers, missing reels and plenty of exploitative mayhem.

Sources say Rose McGowan and director Robert Rodriguez are now engaged after dating since last year. The couple met on the set of Planet Terror and rumors started almost immediately. Rodriquez's wife of 16 years was a producer on the film. People says:
People magazine is reporting that director Robert Rogriguez is engaged to his girlfriend Rose McGowan. The two met on the set of his joint film with fellow director Quentin Tarantino, Grindhouse/Planet Terror. Romance blossomed between the two on the set…right under the nose of his partner/wife of 15 years Elizabeth Avellan, who is ... the mother of his five children.
