Ronald Reagan: States
built 627 days ago
Ronald Reagan always had an obsession with Bullwinkle the Moose and Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. In 1987, inspired by the Kool-Aid man and his wall-bursting escapades, Reagan famously said, "Tear down this wall!" referring to the mythical wall of separation between church and state. The Soviets were so scared that they did.

Reagan had a close friendship with many other conservative political leaders across the globe, especially Margaret Thatcher in Britain, and Brian Mulroney in Canada. Reagan had a great desire for establishing personal relationships with other heads of state, often inviting them to his ranch or Camp David for casual retreats.
In the election campaign, Reagan favored reducing total government spending while increasing the amount spent on defense. He ... supported large tax cuts and state or local control of programs such as welfare. And he felt that the United States should take firmer stands against Communism.

Reagan in the White House in 1981. His leather-bound diaries were edited by Douglas Brinkley. The earnest entries are marked by a spare writing style in which Reagan reduced complicated matters to their essence. In 1982, when he accepted Haig's resignation from the Cabinet and Haig said they had had disagreements over foreign policy, Reagan wrote: "Actually the only disagreement was over whether I made policy or the Sec. of State did."
