Ronald Reagan: Presidency
built 641 days ago
In 1998, ten years after Reagan left office, PBS created a television movie and this companion website. The timeline and photo gallery are nice, but the best clicks are found in Special Features and People & Events. Visit Special Features for a virtual tour of the Reagan library, excerpts from two Reagan biographies, and a collection of quotes. Visit People & Events for articles on five people who touched Reagan's life (such as Gorbechev and Hinkley) and three challenges from his presidency (including the 1982 recession and the Iran-Contra affair.)

The awesomest part of Reagan's presidency was when he won the biggest landslide election in the history of the US. The only state who didn't vote for him was Minnesota, where bears had sadly taken over the state temporarily since they were too wowed with the awesome power of Reagan to resist. After the election, the God Squad sorted them out in quick order.

Reagan's presidency was marked by expressions of his personal faith in God, and his dependence on the power of prayer. After he survived the assassination attempt by John Hinckley in 1981, just weeks after he took office, Reagan felt he had been saved by divine intervention, and that he was responsible to give something back. "I have decided that whatever time I may have left is left for Him," he told aides.

Milton Friedman has pointed to the number of pages added to the Federal Register each year as evidence of the anti-regulatory nature of Reagan's presidency. [15] The number of pages added to the Register each year declined sharply at the start of the Ronald Reagan presidency, breaking a steady and sharp increase since 1960. The increase in the number of pages added per year resumed an upward, though less steep, trend after Reagan left office.
