Ron Sparks is a Canadian comedian, writer and actor. He first began performing as a member of York University's Vanier Improv Company but soon ventured into sketch comedy with much success. Ron's troupe, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, were nominated four straight years (2003-2006) for Canadian Comedy Awards for Best Sketch Troupe, winning in 2003 and 2004. In 2006 they were ... featured on the CBC special Sketch with Kevin McDonald, for which they won a third Canadian Comedy Award for "Best Taped Live Performance".

Ron Sparks is Alabama’s 25th Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. A Fort Payne native, Sparks served the previous four years, January 1999 –2003, overseeing the day-by-day operations of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries as Assistant Commissioner. A successful businessman, Sparks was elected DeKalb County Commissioner in 1978, becoming, at age 25, one of the youngest county commissioners in Alabama. He now has three children and a grandchild. For more than 20 years, Sparks has been active in youth athletics.

MONTGOMERY – Commissioner Ron Sparks has provided information on the status of Alabama’s agricultural industry following Hurricane Katrina. With widespread power outages, the brunt of the loss was felt by grocery stores as a tremendous amount of food had to be disposed of following Katrina. The Department of Agriculture and Industries has dispatched food safety teams throughout the state including the cities of Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. Being one of the hardest hit in Alabama, the Mobile area warehouses are considered a priority and most have been contacted and checked as of Wednesday morning. The food disposal process will be ongoing until all damaged or spoiled food is removed and destroyed.

Alabama’s political circles are abuzz today, after Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks yesterday publicly pondered a campaign to unseat Sen. Jeff Sessions. Ron Sparks has burst onto the Canadian comedy scene in an incredibly short period of time. He first began performing as a member of York University's Vanier Improv Company but soon ventured into sketch comedy with much success. Ron's troupe, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, won the 2003 and 2004 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Sketch Troupe. He began doing stand-up in April of 2003 and within a few months he had won the prestigious Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award, given to Toronto's freshest and most promising new comedian.

Ron Sparks was born and raised in Ft. Payne, Alabama where he learned hard working values from his mother and grandmother. He began working in the sock mills of DeKalb County while still attending high school. Upon graduation from Ft. Payne High School in 1971, Sparks entered the United States Coast Guard and served as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Honor Guard. He was ... a member of the Coast Guard Search and Rescue. While serving in the Coast Guard, Commissioner Sparks received numerous commendations and letters of merit including the United States Coast Guard Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in the Performance of Duty with Operational Distinguishing Device.
