Although Ron Howard was born (on March 1, 1954) in Duncan, Oklahoma, from an early age he made Hollywood his home. He shot his first motion picture at four and played major television roles at five. Before his sixth birthday he had found a permanent place for himself in American popular culture by creating the role of Opie on The Andy Griffith Show. Later, through his starring roles in the landmark film, American Graffiti, and the hit television series, Happy Days, he came to represent the perennial American teenager. But even in his teen years, Howard had a long-range goal: to trade the glare of the spotlight for a quieter but equally creative life behind the camera.

Ron Howard's father was a writer for The Flintstones and an occasional actor who would bring his son onto the set with him. In Frontier Woman, an abysmal western featuring the elder Howard, young Ron made his film debut at the age of one. He was famous playing Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show, and remembers that even at the age of six or seven, the program's producers welcomed and incorporated his suggestions. Later child acting included The Music Man with Robert Preston and The Courtship of Eddie's Father with Glenn Ford.

Through Ron Howard's company Imagine Television, Howard continues to have a presence in television, most recently as the executive producer and uncredited narrator of the critically acclaimed FOX sitcom Arrested Development. The show, despite having won five Emmy awards and near-unanimous praise from critics, did not enjoy high ratings and was limited by Fox Television in 2006. A season finale took place in February. Although many rumours go round, the show is not officially cancelled... the finale revealed that the show decided to end, with the hint of a possible feature.

Ron Howard has the kind of face that refuses to age. No matter how much hair he loses, or how much facial hair he grows, he continues to exude a boyish charm. For some viewers, he will always be known as Opie Taylor, for others as Richie Cunningham, while some confused TV audience members might remember him as Opie Cunningham.

Ron Howard traveled the country spreading the message of GW to prospective students, as well as alumni. Howard won the GW Award in 1977, given in "special recognition to those people who have made The George Washington University a better place to be." Ron Howard was an enthusiastic photographer. He free lanced for the student newspaper the Hatchet, and some of his images appeared in various campus publications as well.
