All of Rome’s cafes and bars are “pubs” – public establishments. To have a license they must have a functioning restroom, and they cannot refuse use of the restroom to the general public, whether they are paying customers or not.

The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who ... designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at The Rocco Forte Collection.

The water tower was planned on the hill - one of Rome's famous seven where the Clock Tower now stands. However, there were those who insisted such terrific water pressure from opened faucets, would "knock the bottom out of a tin cup". Needless to say, the issue passed, and the water tower was built, with a capacity of almost a quarter million gallons. The tank itself is of heavy steel, 26 feet in diameter and 60 feet deep.
