Roller Coaster: St Petersburg
built 275 days ago
The oldest roller coasters descended from the so-called "Russian Mountains," which were specially constructed hills of ice[4] located especially around St Petersburg. Built in the 17th century, the slides were built to a height of between 70 and 80 feet (24 m), consisted of a 50 degree drop, and were reinforced by wooden supports. These slides became popular with the Russian upper class. Catherine the Great was such a fan of these attractions that she had a few of these slides built on her own property. Most languages call roller coaster, when literally translated, "Russian Mountains," e.g. "Las montaƱas rusas" = "The Russian Mountains."

The class can not decide which theme park they should visit, all expenses paid, as the result of winning Roller Coaster Magazines Middle School Roller Coaster Contest. Students will break up into pairs to research six roller coasters at nearby theme parks to see which roller coaster would give the best ride based on height, length, and maximum speed. Based on this information they will vote on which park to visit.

Advisory Services LLC ("SPIAS") believes that the roller-coaster performance in US markets is good reason for investors to look at diversifying their portfolio abroad. The overriding concerns regarding credit and liquidity in the U.S. debt markets provides investors with a window of opportunity to look at investing in emerging markets, especially Asia and Latin America. Although performance there may be appealing, investors need to discern among the various economic- and policy-related factors that tend to differentiate one emerging market's performance from another. These and other findings are available in Global Investment Prospects and Strategy, published by Standard & Poor's, a leading provider of financial market intelligence.
