The 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s brought economic and social changes—and a low point in the survival of roller coasters. Amusement parks deteriorated and declined from coast to coast. Unfortunately, hundreds of roller coasters met the fate of the wrecking ball during this dark period.

Before the roller coaster can be installed, the area where it is to be located needs to be cleared and prepared. This is usually done in the off season when the amusement park is closed. If it must be done while the park is still open, the area is fenced off to prevent the public from wandering onto the construction site.

After he became famous, Elvis would sometimes rent out this entire amusement park so he could throw parties and ride the Zippin’ Pippin roller coaster. (Back then it was called the Fairgrounds Amusement Park.)
