The 28th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race drew to a close with numerous crescendos of noise, entirely in keeping with a race that has rightfully claimed its place in the pantheon of offshore classics. The noise started at 1.45AM as the final yacht crossed the line in Marsamxett Harbour and ended with the victor receiving his spoils at the prize giving held this afternoon overlooking an ever changing seascape that reflected the essence of this wonderful race.

Hans Wilsdorf, along with Michael Hickman, registered the trademark name "Rolex" in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1908. The word was made up, and its origin is obscure. One story, which was never confirmed by Wilsdorf, is that the word "Rolex" came from the French phrase horlogerie exquise, meaning exquisite clockwork. Another story claims that Wilsdorf was riding a bus when he realized that "rolex" was the sound a watch made while being wound.[7]

You can take your watch to a qualified watchmaker and let him/her determine if your watch is genuine Rolex or not. Or you can remove the watchband. Check between the lugs at the 12 position and see if it has an engraved "Registered Design" number. If you see no number, it is fake. Now check between the lugs at the 6 position. Here you should see a serial number of the case.
