Roger Moore: James Bond
built 199 days ago
Of all of the actors to play James Bond, Roger Moore has probably been the smoothest. As Bond, the way he handles women and stressful situations seems makes you think that you could do it as well as him. He was ... pulled off some great action scenes in his younger days as Bond, but his last few Bond movies lacked in this area.

Roger Moore brought a whole new style of character to the role of James Bond. From the very start of his first film, Live and Let Die, Roger Moore’s style of playing Bond was obvious and this helped him to establish himself in the role, and to break away from the image of Sean Connery. He did not have that 'tougher' side to him that Connery had, but instead added more humour, wit, sexual suggestion and sarcasm. However there are a few rare occasions when a darker side is seen of Roger Moore’s Bond. In For Your Eyes Only Bond gives Emile Leopold Locque’s car a decisive kick over a cliff sending him to his death after a suspense-full chase.
When Roger Moore donned James Bond's famous tux one last time in A View to a Kill(1985), he was 57 and the oldest actor to ever play the secret agent. And though he never achieved the popularity of his predecessor Sean Connery, Moore starred in a total of seven official Bond flicks, to the sexy Scot's six. Now 76, the London native is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and was knighted by the Queen last October. Moore recently finished Maclean's Researcher-Reporter John Intini's sentences.

Born in London on October 14, 1927, Roger Moore is best known as the man who replaced Sean Connery as suave secret agent James Bond. Moore studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before coming to Hollywood under contract to MGM. He appeared in several films before switching to television roles in series such as "Ivanhoe," "The Alaskans" and "Maverick."

Although Roger Moore’s name was mentioned in the original Bond casting search, his commitment to the TV series The Saint precluded him from being seriously considered for the role. But he did eventually take over from Sean Connery in 1973. Moore brought a new lightweight attitude to the role of 007, although older than Connery, he brought a youthful charm to the part.

Roger Moore makes his first appearance as James Bond in Live and Let Die. This was quite a crucial time in the history of James Bond films as it was deemed that James Bond's time had come to an end. With Sean Connery no longer wanting to do any more films and George Lazenby rejected by audiences the producers had one last chance to keep the series running. No doubt things would have been very different if Live and Let Die had not been a success. James Bond was substantially different in Moonraker ... as it managed to hold onto the title of "Biggest Grossing Bond Film" for an astonishing 16 years before it was smashed by Goldeneye - Pierce Brosnan's introduction to the world of James Bond.
