Rogaine is one of the brand names for the drug minoxidil. It is in a class of drugs considered antihypertensives. It relaxes the smooth muscles of the arteries causing vasodilation and lowering of blood pressure on the walls of the blood vessel.

Rogaine hit the world by storm back in 1988 after gaining FDA approval. Since then many Rogaine review articles have been published extolling the virtues of this wonder drug in promoting hair growth.

Patients treated with Rogaine should be monitored after starting therapy and periodically thereafter. If systemic effects should occur, discontinue use of Rogaine. If necessary, fluid retention and oedema can be managed with diuretic treatment. Tachycardia and angina can be controlled by administration of beta-adrenergic blocking drugs or other sympathetic nervous system suppressants.
